How much is the IELTS test fee?

The cost for an IELTS English test in Australia is $475. The price for the test is the same whether you take IELTS General Training, or IELTS Academic. It also remains consistent whether you opt for IELTS on computer or paper. There is no separate registration fee or payment processing fee. There is also no late payment fee. However, in some locations, the test fee can be slightly higher.

Please note that the prices for the IELTS UKVI tests and IELTS Life Skills tests also differ.
The price for IELTS UKVI (both Academic and General Training) is $490. The price for the Life Skills test (both A1 and B1) is $375.

Question 2

When should I arrive at the test centre?

Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your test with a valid passport. If you arrive later than 10 minutes before your test, you may not be permitted to take the test.

If your test commences at 9AM, you'll be able to enter the test centre from 8AM.

Question 3

I can only see Listening, Reading and Writing tests on the booking website, is the Speaking Test not included in the test fee?

The Speaking Test is included in the test fee. After booking the time slot for Listening, Reading and Writing test, you’ll be able to book the Speaking test on the second step of the booking process.

I have a special requirement. How can you help?

Accepted Answer

IELTS provides a comprehensive service for test-takers who have special requirements, including specific learning difficulties, hearing difficulties and visual difficulties, medical conditions or infant feeding.

If you require special arrangements to be made, e.g. a modified version of IELTS or extra time, please submit an enquiry here. Alternatively, you may contact us at ielts.sydney@idp.com.

Note: You must give us at least six weeks’ notice.

How can I change my test booking?

Please refer to the IELTS Cancellation and Refund policy for more information, if you'd like to change your test module, reschedule your test, or cancel your test.

Question 6

Is the Speaking test time final? Is there any possibility it may change?

Accepted Answer

Your Speaking test time may need to be adjusted by up to 20 minutes. Rest assured that any change to your time will be included in the pre-test reminder email and SMS one day before your test.

Question 7

Do I need computer skills to take the computer-delivered IELTS test?

Accepted Answer

No special computer skills are needed. The IELTS on computer test uses a QWERTY keyboard. If you're unfamiliar with this keyboard, practising with one before the test may help. Don't worry if you can't type quickly; the test is designed for people with normal typing skills.

Can I get a soft or electronic copy of my IELTS results?

IELTS provides you with an official, secure, digital and paper Test Report Form (TRF).
eTRFs are now available for customers who sit the IELTS on computer test. The eTRF will be available in your booking profile as a downloadable PDF file.
If you sat the paper test, we can either post the TRF out to you or you can come to pick up your results. If you need your original TRF urgently, you can always ask your test centre to express post it to you (just be aware there might be a small additional charge for this).

Need your results for an Australian visa?If you apply for a visa online, you can find your Test Report Form (TRF) number when you access your results online.

Question 9

Can I take a toilet break during the test?

Accepted Answer

All IELTS centres have the same toilet break policy. In the Reading and Writing tests, toilet breaks cannot be taken during the last 5 minutes for computer-delivered or the last 10 minutes for paper-based.

No breaks can be taken in the Listening test, during announcements, between tests or while papers are being collected and counted. Please keep this in mind and ensure you are comfortable throughout the day.

Question 11

What do I need to bring on the day of the IELTS test?

Accepted Answer

On the day of the test, you must bring your current passport (only original and current passports are accepted). Your passport must have an expiry date of at least 7 days after the test date to be considered valid. Photocopies or certified copies will not be accepted.

You may also bring a clear bottle of water. However, you must remove all labels and bottle must be see-through.

Pencils and erasers will be provided by the test centre. You can bring pencils and erasers with you (usually IELTS test centres will provide these to you during the test. Please check at the reception if you can take the stationery items inside the test room).
