Arriving in Melbourne
When you first arrive in Melbourne at the airport, you’ll see many people in the queue for Skybus, but actually, you can take the normal bus into the city, which costs $4 instead of $18. After that, you need to buy a myki card, as it’s the only way you can use public transport systems here, which is pretty easy compared to other cities where you need to buy different tickets for different transport systems.
Travelling in Melbourne
You can download an app called PTV, it’s absolutely a convenient app, by which you can search train, tram and bus times, always correct. But you better go to the train station earlier, then you won’t miss the train if it is early!
And also, don’t put your feet on the seat in front of you even there’s nobody sitting on it because you’re going to be fined $200 if the ticket inspector catches you.
People in Melbourne
People living in Melbourne always talk about the weather, some say there are four seasons in a day. So you better to check the temperature every day. You’re going to figure out how it can be a sunny day but suddenly rain heavily and become sunny again in 5mins, like nothing happened. And maybe yesterday was 30 degrees, but today is only 10 degrees. So bring your umbrella and check the weather before you leave home.
"It’s interesting and convenient living in Melbourne. I’ve been living here for a long time so I have many tips to share with you." - Keira (an English student at the Universal Institute of Technology in Melbourne)
Melbourne is a multicultural city, people from all over the world, you can see people in different colours, talk in different languages. You can find any types of cuisine, you also can get any vegetables, meat, and seafood if you want to make a dish by yourself. In the city, you can go to Victoria Market. It is only closed on Monday and Wednesday, if you love to cook, I recommend to go there on Sunday afternoon, when you can always find something fresh and cheaper. So you can have some fun there for sure.
